This year, the program welcomes a new head coach, Darnell Artis, also known as Coach Speedy, who is determined to bring home GMercyU’s first championship banner since 2019.
Coach Speedy emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and balance both on and off the court. He believes that a winning mindset extends beyond basketball and can have a positive impact on the entire campus community and focuses on keeping players physically prepared, mentally focused, and academically successful. According to Coach Speedy, the ability to stay calm under pressure is what creates true success, much like how pressure forms diamonds. He also teaches that the lessons learned on the court such as resilience, composure, and teamwork translate directly into life beyond basketball.
