College athletes use the NCAA transfer portal to find their new campuses. In fact, more than 15,000 student athletes transferred last year, and this number is only growing by the year.
Finding your place in a new college is a multifaceted process, as students adjust to a new school, new team, new coach and new socialconnections.
To shed light on this journey, Jimmy DeCarlo, Joe Brooks, and Brady Belfus share their own experiences with transferring—the challenges they faced, the adjustments they made, and the advice they have for others considering the same path.
Dr. Patrick “Doc” McGrain, the Faculty Athletic Representative at GMercyU, provides insight on the academic aspect of transferring, as someone who oversees the criminology program and baseball team on campus. Overall, the process of transferring is something much more than a lateral move, but a decision that changes a life, along with both an academic and athletic career.
